An example of a signs in which English is used incorrectly

6. Going out for business.

The sign here seems to inform readers that the owners are going out of their shops for business which is obviously not the case. The real intention is to inform people that their business is ending soon. As such, instead of the word "for", the word "of" should be used .

How it should be written: Going out of business.

5. In an out of an order.

The whole sentence is grammatically wrong. The sign is to inform readers that the object is not in a working condition. As such, the sentence would not require the words "In an" as the object is not physically in anything. Order here refers to the functionality of the object an not a physical state. As such, the word "an" is unnecessary.

How it should be written: Out of order.

4. The office is clothes!

Obviously the sign here is to explain the state of the shop. The sign is used to inform visitors that the office is closed instead of clothes. Since clothes is an object it is not correct to use it in this sentence. Thus the word closed should be used to explain to individuals that the office is not in use currently.

How it should be written: The office is closed.

3. Why does poor people be poor?

The sentence here is grammatically incorrect as the word "does" should be replaced by "are". Since they are describing poor people and questioning why these group of people are poor, the word "be" is not necessary.

How it should be written: Why are poor people poor?

2. Speed is ppoor subsittute fo accurancy.

Various errors can be spotted here. They include spelling errors such as "ppoor", "subsittute", "fo" and "accurancy." Thus the correct spelling of the words should be poor, substitute, for and accuracy. Finally, speed is poor substitute for accuracy is wrong as the word "a" should be placed after "is" in order to make the sentence grammatically correct.

How it should be written: Speed is a poor substitute for accuracy.

1. Violators will be towered.

There are two errors that I am able to spot here. This sign is obviously referring to vehicles instead of individuals. Thus instead of violators, the word vehicle might be more appropriate. Secondly, instead of towered, the word towed should be used. It is understood that if a vehicle were to be in the area, it will be towed instead of towered.

How it should be written: Vehicles will be towed.
